The Metrolink, St. Louis' light rail system, was designed for easy access by students and staff at Washington University in St. Louis. Not only do two stations service WashU's Danforth Campus but the university offers free metro passes to all students and staff. However, the Metrolink remains underutilized by students. In particular, University Big Bend station saw lower-than-predicted ridership prior to 2020, even despite its proximity to student housing.
This study will analyze factors impeding further use of the Metrolink by Washington University students with the goal of creating actionable items for the university to implement as a way to increase ridership that can justify further system improvements.
